Jazz, Baby! was conceived when a young couple from the San Francisco area wanted to share and enjoy good music together with their young child and newborn baby. Given their love of big band, they wanted to excite children with music from a historical era when large orchestral ensembles were enjoyed by all.Every effort - From the writing of the arrangements, to the assembly of top level musicians, to the production at Skywalker Ranch, make Jazz, Baby! a masterful musical voyage for all to enjoy Doug Beavers Rovira, a young, yet accomplished jazz trombonist, composer and arranger (whose recent arrangements are featured on Eddie Palmieri’s Grammy®-winning Listen Here!) ran with the idea, studying the likes of legendary big band arrangers such as Nelson Riddle and Billy May.The eleven arrangements on Jazz,Baby!, orchestrated for twenty-two different instruments and a fourteen horn lineup, creatively explore a diverse range of musical styles within the traditional big band sound. For example, “Twinkle†maintains a characteristic swing, while “She’ll Be Comin’ Around the Mountain†is a cha-cha that features legendary conguero Giovanni Hidalgo.In all, Jazz, Baby! exposes kids to the full range of sounds that are possible from the many instruments that comprise a large ensemble.Jazz, Baby! also connects children to music that is often played in their school jazz, symphonic and marching band ensembles.With influences in children's music increasingly coming from today's pop, hip-hop and rock, Jazz, Baby! shows kids (and their parents) that Big Band, too, is cool!
