This is a personal bio, as my band bios have their own myspace pages.I started playing guitar in 1962 at the age of 8, working on stage since age 11, and haven't quit since. I grew up in Fort Lee, N.J. in the 1960's in a bountiful musical scene filled with talented people. In 1968-69, I formed what was arguably the first Grateful Dead cover band in the country called Cavalry, with acclaimed songwriter and pianist Kenny White. My close friend and monster guitarist Van Manakas, had a band called Cheyenne in the Quicksilver Messenger Service vein, with whom we would share the stage at numerous tribal events in the San Francisco tradition.
From 1974-1978 I attended the Berklee College of Music, where I graduated with a degree in Applied Music. It was quite an interesting time there as I got to know Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, and Mike Stern, while studying for 2 years with the legendary Mick Goodrick.
I've gone on to play virtually every type of American Music, ranging from Country to Free Improvisation, and most everything in between.
In 2000, I was invited by Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead to come to San Francisco and rehearse for 3 days for a possible collaboration down the road. Musically it went really well, and I appreciate the opportunity to have played with a guy I've admired since 1967.
Since moving to the Tampa Bay Area in 2001, I have performed with Uncle John's Band, the long running Thursday night house band at Skipper's Smokehouse, and Earth Bombs Mars, a band that features original material.
In summation, I just want to play till I drop!
