I grew up in Pacolet Mills, South Carolina, a small town in rural Spartanburg County. I'm an Eagle Scout. I graduated from Pacolet High School in 1965. I attended Clemson University, 1965-67; I didn't like it; it didn't like me. I flunked out and joined the Air Force. I was stationed at Lackland AFB, Texas; Sheppard AFB, Texas; Norton AFB, San Bernardino, California; Ching Chuang Kang (CCK) Air Base, Taiwan; Nha Trang AB, Viet Nam; Rhein-Main Air Base, Frankfurt, Germany; Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska. I loaded and offloaded cargo aircraft; discharged as a SSgt. in 1971 and went back to college. Lived the hippie life. I graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC in 1976 with a BS degree in Geology. Been a Geologist ever since. Got married to Rhonda in 1976. Worked for the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control for a couple of years. Worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Kansas City, Savannah and New Orleans from 1978-84. Our daughter was born in 1984; was and is the brightest thing in my life (She graduated from the Univ. of SC this spring). Moved to Greenville, South Carolina in late 1984 and started working in private consulting until 2002. Got laid off, floundered for a while, finally went to work for the State of North Carolina, Raleigh, NC in 2003. Currently with the Department of Transportation building bridges and such. I'm a big fan of sixties and seventies rock and roll (Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Traffic, Cream, Hendrix, Airplane, Janis Joplin, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Zeppelin, Quicksilver, Burrito Brothers, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Eagles, Clapton, etc.) and The Blues of all sorts and vintages (Sonny Boy Williamson, Elmore James, Willie Dixon, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, R.L. Burnside, Joanna Conner, Kenny Neal, etc.). I'm a hopeless pack rat and will collect damn near anything: coins, old bottles, vinyl records, CDs, fossils, plants, old pieces of wood . . . don't know why, just do. Whew!__________________________
