the lapse

The break-up of the Van Pelt was supposed to be Chris Leo and Toko Yasuda's last stand with the idea of "A Band." X-enough, they formed The Lapse--a band/non-band, or so they thought. Their recipe was like this: if they went into it as permanence and collaboration and came out with a busted up solo-project, then try the inverse--hence, a little bit, their namesake. Well...two albums, two years, eight drummers and a handful of US and Euro tours into it, their eyes crossed with mutual severity neither could ignore. Chris said "bitch," Toko threw her tuner at him and muttered "baby," they played a song and never again denied that they most certainly had become...a band. Man, friendships in the Big Apple are tangential, fast and all too often fleeting--but then again, where would these two be if they had a close enough friend to spell it out for them: "Guys, maybe it's you." Maybe this band depends on it. They'll never break up, it's too late for that. Expect every glass in the house shattered and all the china smashed before either moves out. So expect some good listening.Before "Heaven Ain't Happenin', The Lapse released their debut The Betrayal on Gern Blandsten. Before that, Chris and Toko played in the much beloved Van Pelt, who released tow albums, numerous singles and some eps. Before that, Toko played in Blonde Redhead and Chris played in the early 90's post-hardcore group Native Nod.*****************************************
