Music:

Band Website: www.ululoa.com
Band Members: Me (Cody Pueo Pata), Kaiolohia Funes Smith, Leimana Abenes, Jeff Au Hoy, Aaron Sala, Kalai Ontai, Willie Wainwright, Kopaa Tita, Kea Mossman & na wahine o Ka Malama Mahilani.
Influences: My real jobs influence how much time I get with my music!!! Currently, I'm teaching High School at Kamehameha School's Maui, I am the tribal linguist for the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians, and I'm the kumu hula of Halau Hula Ka Malama Mahilani. Singing for me is just as much a kuleana as it is for fun. I have many teachers and it's their teachings that live on in my music.
Sounds Like: On June 17, 2008, Cody Pata became the recipient of the prestigious Haku Mele (Composer’s Award) in the 31st Annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards of The Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts (a.k.a. The Hawaiian Grammys). The Haku Mele category is for the “Best first-released song or chant primarily in the Hawaiian language.” This adjudicated category is judged by “...a panel of Hawaiian language, haku mele [traditional composers], and music specialists appointed by the Board of Governors...” From his latest album, “He aloha...”, his composition “Mili'opua” was chosen out of 40+ entrants as this year’s winner by the following criteria: “1. Poetic style of the Hawaiian language where appropriate; 2. Proper wording (choice of words and/or phrases) of the Hawaiian language; and 3. Musical composition.” If you are interested in Cody Pata’s Hawaiian music recordings, please visit www.ululoa.com.
