About Me

Salt Lake City native, Emilee Floor began playing piano at the age of four. A third-generation musician, Emilee was composing by age five and performed her first professional gig at sixteen. As she discovered the enjoyment of vocalizing with her piano performances, her vocal stylizing quickly gained popularity and began to dazzle audiences throughout the Salt Lake Valley and surrounding areas of the Wasatch Front. Inspired by Aldous Huxley's quote, "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music", Emilee came to view music as a "universal language" and as one of the most important means of communication. This comes through in her playing, as her passion and effervescent personality reach out to her audience and make each performance a memorable one. As for her style, she attributes her jazz sensibilities to being blessed with a life spent listening to her father Jerry Floor, and her brother Greg Floor, both of whom are acclaimed musicians."Growing up with two phenomenal horn players has influenced me tremendously, and has given me an instrumental approach to phrasing, and the way I think about jazz," she says.Emilee received her Master's degree in French Literature from the University of Utah in 2002, and she soon combined her love for both the French language and music. She continues to write French lyrics and enjoys performing music in other languages as well. Her long-standing, weekly gig at The Cinegrill Restaurant has been a great "home court advantage" for Emilee's performance career and an extraordinary place for Salt Lakers to hear her perform.Emilee was the musical director for "Tony n' Tina's Wedding" in 2002. She has been a featured artist in the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival since 2001. She has opened for Maureen McGovern, Spanky Wilson, Eldar Djangirov, Jack Jones, Ernie Andrews, and Alvino Rey. She has recorded with famed guitarist Ron Anthony, and vocalist Jack Wood, The Ryun Louie Quartet, and The Greg Floor Quintet. She has appeared with The Allen and Rossi Comedy Team, John Stowell, Rob Mullins, Llew Mathews, Luther Hughes, Sal Cracchiolo, Greg Thymius, Paul Gary, Stafford Horne, Jerry Floor Bands, The Joe Muscolino Big Band, and The Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra, among others. Emilee has appeared on Salt Lake City's jazz radio station KUER with hosts Steve Williams and Wes Bowen, and has also performed regularly in numerous venues in the Salt Lake City area, such as The Alta Club, Third and Main, The Rustler Lodge, Snowbird Resort, Little and Grand America Hotels, and The Hilton Hotel, as well as in Park City's Easy Street Brasserie, 350 Main, Stein Eriksen Lodge and other lodges at Deer Valley Resort. In addition to her Utah appearances, Emilee has also performed in New York City at The Rainbow Room, Michael's Restaurant, The Palace Hotel, and in Los Angeles's premier jazz club, Steamer's.Emilee is involved in multiple recording projects at this time which will be released in the coming months: A solo album, an album with The Ryun Louie Quartet, and a compilation album which will include instrumentation from solo to big band with Emilee's own compositions and arrangements, and others written byTom Garvin, Bob Bailey, and Greg Floor.
