About Me
Violet Manners is a jewellery label designed by Londoner Nisha Thirkell, who has been creating her distinctive pieces since 2004 for boutiques as far afield as London, LA and Tokyo. The current collection is inspired by symbols of superstition, time, loss and secrecy. Influences range from Victorian mourning jewellery, to the discarded and forgotten items found in dusty antique shops. These items, once treasured and now bereft of owner and history, can be re-cast or re-used, and are transformed by this process into new and valued objects. So a simple 1940’s celluloid gumball charm of lucky crossed fingers, or an ornate but useless key without a lock, find a new existence cast in silver. Tiny broken watches are nestled amongst onyx and gold plated skulls, and become poignant little reminders of lost time. This collection is supplemented by labour-intensive, traditional cage-work and filigree techniques, and a carefully sourced supply of vintage beads, buttons from the 1920’s and 30’s, jet, ebony and tiny bones recast in precious metal. For further information and images visit www.violetmanners.com.
