About Me

I started playing violin when I was a child, then switched to guitar my senior year of high school. Songwriting came along with the guitar, and I've never had something in my life that felt as natural. I've had a handful of bands over the years -- Stone Soup, Dead Pressed Flowers, Everybody Wins -- but my solo stuff always seemed to get the most attention, so here we go with a newly produced album of my solo material...."Boy Meets Girl," I'd say, is the proper follow-up to 1999's "Glutton's Dozen." As such, it treats the two LP and three EP releases since then as demos, culling a few tracks from that time along with a bunch of newer songs from the last few years. Dana Cannone produced this 12-track collection, which features the talents of Jason Miller (Rusted Root), Justin Brown (The Crawlin' Low Band, The New Fiction), Ford Thurston (Vibro Kings, Too Tall Jones), Michael Bellar (Amos Lee, the As/Is Ensemble), Zé Luis (Bebel Gilberto), Rob James (The Clarks) and many others.... We're very excited about this album!Click at the top of the page to pre-order "Boy Meets Girl!" Album Preview 12: "Tossing and Turning"

Tossing and Turning is the oldest song on this album, and the only one that carries over from "Glutton’s Dozen."  It’s one that I’ve never even remotely wanted to abandon, becau...

Album Preview 11: "Novice"

Probably the coolest thing about Novice is that the second verse was written in a half-hour, in the WQED-13 green room, while I was waiting to do my live appearance on On-Q.  Being the idiot I am...

Album Preview 10: "Up For Hire"

Up For Hire was inspired by a one-night encounter with someone who had broken up with me a while before the event.I remember it pretty well, despite everything -- starting out very stoic, then easing ...

Album Preview 9: "Empire"

Empire came from two places -- first, that someone I was falling in love with found the one way she could hurt me most, and did it, and second, that I worked at Comcast with a guy named Tony Brown.One...

Album Preview 7: "It Hurts"

OK, this one.... Really explains itself, and I hate talking about it, so I'll talk about the mechanics of the song a little instead, which will hopefully entertain those of you who have been looking f...

Glutton’s Dozen now available!

I've gotten a bunch of requests for my 1999 album, Glutton's Dozen -- you know, the one with the girl on the cover, with the donuts?  Well, I'm pretty much out of the hard copies, and I'm not sur...

Album preview 5: "Inaccessible"

Despite my general ebullience, I have a history of being shy around women that I'm infatuated with.  One of these crushes, Rachel, used to go to Friday Nite Improvs every week.  I knew not T...

Album Preview 4: "I Only Have Eyes For You"

The year was 2000.  I was hosting a singer-songwriter night at Club Cafe on Tuesday nights, so I was there pretty constantly.  One of the acts I had come to make sure I was there for was Jen...
