Rowan and the Crops Failed

Hello have you got any friends? all mine are dead

About Me

Taking their name from a line of dialogue in the 1973 British horror classic The Wicker Man, Rowan and the Crops Failed are a power-folk three-piece suite featuring troubled lensman TV Magic (vocals and acoustic guitar) accompanied by Welsh bon vivant Sir Textalot (drums), and disgraced academic The Oxo (bass).Originating from the twin cultural wastelands of East Anglia and South Wales, the band now operate from above a chicken shop in Stockwell, playing what the BBC, in their wisdom, describe as oddball rock.Their songs deal with doomed restaurateurs, unorthodox alphabets and stolen confetti, among other things, while musical reference points include early Talking Heads, Violent Femmes and wistful nods in the direction of Paul Simon.Rowan and the Crops Failed have this unnerving knack of hitting you with melody where at first you thought there was none, and could easily be the by product of classically derived Canterbury folk on seriously bad acid.

Sounds Like: ‘The Beast Must Die’ is a catchy mix of Dylan tinged folk backing up a pacy Talking Heads type vocal with a sublime sounding trumpet kicking in just before the end.’ XFM
