About Me
Lyricist, composer, producer, and visual artist BOB BURCHMAN was born in the Bronx, New York City to music loving parents who, while still pregnant with him, frequented the Savoy Ballroom and the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Infused with a myriad of musical influences, BURCHMAN soon found himself rooted in the rich harmonies and rhythms of Black American music; from gospel to jazz to rhythm and blues and funk. His talent and love for art, poetry, and dance, helped to later bring to BURCHMAN's music and lyrics a visual sense of depth and movement.Ironically, BURCHMAN's first commercial success in the music business came in 1970 via THE BEACH BOYS with the release of the song, "It's About Time" (BOB BURCHMAN, Dennis Wilson, & Al Jardine) on their Sunflower album. Later that same year, the legendary jazz producer DICK BOCK invited him to become a member of the first World Music band called SHANTI, playing western percussion for a while along side the likes of ZAKIR HUSSAIN on tabla and AASHISH KHAN on sarod. Since then BURCHMAN has gone on to write songs and co-produce music with some of the most talented and illustrious names in the industry. Some of his collaborators include: RUSS TITELMAN - Producer for Rickie Lee Jones, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, George Benson, Chaka Khan, James Taylor, & Randy Newman; DENNIS WILSON - Drummer & vocals, The Beach Boys; AL JARDINE - Guitarist & vocals, The Beach Boys; RICHARD PAGE - Lead vocalist for Pages, & Mr. Mister; STEVE GEORGE - Keyboards, vocals for Pages, & Mr. Mister; BRUCE MALAMENT - Keyboards for Bobby Caldwell, Barry White, & Dionne Worwick; JAY GRAYDON - Producer for Al Jarreau, Manhatten Transfer, & Pages; JAKOB MAGNUSSON - Keyboardist & founding member of the multi media rock group "Studmenn"; LEE OSKAR - Harmonica, the group War; RANDY KERBER - Keyboardist and arranger for Boz Scaggs, Bette Midler, & Barbra Streisand; BOOKER T.
