Anointed and appointed by God, Liz Yancey will always stand on His word. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey and raised in Shelby, North Carolina, she started singing at an early age.
Liz has many years of experience in the music industry and a strong gospel background. Growing up in the Baptist church she learned Hymns, Spirituals and Old School gospel. Liz began playing the piano and writing music at 10 years old. Not knowing that music would become a permanent part of her life. At the beginning of Liz’s career she sang back-up for the J Street Jazz Band and she also experience being headliner at The Grammy Night which was held at the Spagetti Factory in Charlotte, North Carolina. Liz was also performing every Thursday Night at the Renaissance Hotel singing Jazz for the dinner clientele. She is a recording artist, songwriter and teacher who bring a new flavor of song and inspiration to the forefront.
With studies in Music Education Vocal and Minor in Piano at Winston –Salem State University, her major influences are artists such as Phyllis Hyman, Kirk Franklin, Rochelle Farrell, Yolanda Adams, John Legend, Donnie McClurkin and Mary-Mary to name a few.
In 1996, under the name “JaShayâ€, she teamed up with producers Carlton Carter and Jeffery Bernstein in Manhattan, New York and released her first single “Higherâ€. The single received great reviews and was played in the airways throughout the US and Internationally. Now Kult Records (New York) is producing “Higher†with hot new mixes which is available throughout the internet. In the same year, her second single “Power†(“The Holy Ghost Powerâ€, as her fans called it) was released by Flatline Records of East Orange, New Jersey. In 1998, “Shout Hallelujah†was released and distributed by Strictly Rhythm Records in New York which are available today online.
Liz has ministered in many places including North & South Carolina, Washington D.C., New York, Miami- Florida, Detroit- Michigan, Chicago and Atlanta- Georgia just to name a few. Opened for artists Kenny Bobian, Yavhon, Crystal Waters, and with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and many others.
Currently, she calls Atlanta home with her wonderful husband Oretha Yancey II and four beautiful children, Shay, Jarius, Demetrius, and Ontario. She is currently working on her next album titled, “Change†which means “to make different-become different; pass from one condition or state to another-transformationâ€. With this album she will minister to hearts, change lives, and encourage.
