Last night a DJ saved my life

About Me

“Without music, life would be a mistake.... I would only believe in a God who knew how to dance.” - Friedrich NietzscheA new music genre - collectively named "Electronic Music" - was created by ordinary people who wanted to get away from the cares of the world by losing themselves in "the music". DJ's & musician's, who just wanted to play records, helped the genre evolve into something bigger. As a result, what began as an Electronic Music sub-culture became more commercialized as large amounts of money began changing hands, and the movement grew into a full-fledged music culture.Electronic Dance Music culture is alive, and well, and continues to evolve on a daily basis. A new documentary produced by Ultra Digital Films and Anderson Live Media documents the world of dance music/dance culture and its evolution: the scene, the fans, the music, the musicians and the history. VIBES, the working title of our production, will take viewers on a journey from the beginnings of dance culture, through the peaks of counter-culture and formation of dance parties, dancers and scenes to the current wave of DJs who are producing amazing beats from the evolution of the computer based software programs and beyond. Spanning the history from the Northern Soul Scene in Northern England - which laid the groundwork for the acid house/rave culture twenty years later - to the current explosion of DJ’s/producers. Evolving through the most known counter-culture, the Hippie Movement of the 60’s which laid the ideals and ground work for the New York Disco/House scene in 70’s America. VIBES then takes the audience to the Chicago and Detroit movements and then to the early 90’s explosion of rave culture, all way to today, where dance music and dance culture has evolved into a billion dollar industry. Spanning the globe from Manchester to Chicago to New York, the electronic dance culture movement will unfold on-screen through the eyes of the people at the heart of the experience.By the end of the film, viewers will have opened their eyes and ears captured and hearts and souls opened. In the end, we will explain a modern music culture that today is an enigma to the general public, yet is incorporated into our daily lives with TV, film, radio, and sporting events. VIBES offers a revealing glimpse at the cyclical nature of electronic dance culture through candid interviews with DJ's from around the globe and video from parties and venues as small as local hole-in-the-wall dance clubs to huge events like the Ultra Music Festival, and Miami's Winter Music Conference. For the dancer in all of us, it really is beyond the music. It's about embracing the "vibe" – that other state of being, taking one into a world of rhythmic melodic harmonies where the DJ is the conductor, and everyone comes together as an ensemble to leave their worries behind, get away from the world, dance and feel alive!
