TEMPO (Which is an acronym for Taleneted, Experienced, Musicians, Playing, Originally) is an seven member urban force consisting of Guitars, Percussions, Keyboards, and Vocalists. Audiences agree that TEMPOs' soulful grooves will put you in the zone. Even if your a hater by nature, when the music hits there is nothing you can do to fight the soul in your step.
The roots of TEMPO began to sprout on the Largo side of the Washington DC area in the early Spring of 2006 with the help of Charles "Big Body" Sanders and Bryant "Snipes" Henderson. The rhythm section has been playing together collectively since 1999 with a group by the name of Total Madness. Now with a new vision of life, the resurgance of a group of guys with one main goal has been set into place. Bringing you the original GoGo fushion that was once started by Chuck Brown in the 70's along with a new method of approach and lyrical delivery. Since then, the band began to evolve in strange and profound ways. After writing and rehearsing all year, TEMPO played it's debut show along with a funk band called the "Mighty Heard" in May of 2007 at local spot called The Calvert House. Which is located in The Arts District of Hyattsvile M.D. That opened the doors for TEMPO to be the first GoGo group ever to perform live in concert at any Starbucks Coffee Shop. Since then, promoters and fans alike have been actively encouraging TEMPO to continue to crank out and share the music , the experience, and the love with people all over.TEMPO is back with the brand new single, "The Movement" that will have you bobbing your head like wha!! Go-go is a subgenre of funk that originated in the Washington, D.C., area during the mid- to late-1970s. A handful of bands contributed to the early evolution of the genre, but singer-guitarist Chuck Brown is credited with having developed most of the hallmarks of the style.The most important part of the go-go beat is the bass/snare pattern.In technical terms, "Go-go's essential beat is characterized by a syncopated, dotted rhythm that consists of a series of quarter and eighth notes (quarter, eighth, quarter, (space/held briefly), quarter, eighth, quarter)… which is underscored most dramatically by the bass drum and snare drum, and the hi-hat… [and] is ornamented by the other percussion instruments, especially by the conga drums, timbale, and hand-held cowbells."A swing rhythm is often implied (if not explicitly stated).Another important attribute in go-go is call-and-response with the crowd in concert.With few exceptions, go-go bands have seen little success outside of the Washington, D.C., metro area (Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland), yet the style lives on and continues to evolve.***************************************************** ***********
