Nick Street aka Nick the Greek – who is he and what does he do?DJ with 18 years experience. Nick did his apprenticeship, as all the greats did, with a mobile disco back in the late 80's.Main musical influences – House music, D n B, Miles Davis, Nicola Conte, Fela Kuti, Colin Salmon, Japanese Jazz and all things Latin.Technical inspiration – Masters at Work, Mark Bell aka Blakkat, Joe Clausell, Frankie Feliciano, Josh Wink, Ian Greenwood.Prior to establishing Bommynite Music, Nick worked as a buyer for X-Fade Records (Liverpool) from January 2003 – February 2005.During this time he established contact with suppliers and distributors from all over the UK and began building a network of talented local DJs and artists from around the world.Bommynite MusicNick is the founder and managing director of Bommynite Music, which is based in Liverpool. It was set up in April 2005.The company has 3 main strands;• The management of events at the Dragon
• Selling vinyl and CDs
• DJ and artist managementManagement of eventsNick has been Project Manager and Musical Director for the Dragon, Berry Street, Liverpool since January 2006.The Dragon is a small, creative, independent bar which acts as a hub for culturally diverse gigs, events and DJs. At the Dragon it’s all about the vibe.Highlights from the last 12 months at the Dragon which Nick has been responsible for include;• An exclusive, intimate live set from Steve Spacek (Sydney, Australia)
• Nick Rees of Goya Music spinning his hottest tunes.
• A series of very popular Brazilian-themed nights over the summer with live percussion over vinyl.
• Live 12 string guitar by Mike Mooney (Psychedelic Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen) over vinyl of all genres.
• Keith Thompson’s (NYC) only north of England appearance in 2006 with reworx of classics and newer African-influenced tracks.
• Regular nights by excellent locally based DJs from soulful techno to jazz to reggae.
• Collaborative events with Francine Hayfron (‘L’il Minx’ radio producer for X-FM and Unabombers, Mr Scruff)
• Pascal Roux from label ‘Favourites’ in Paris
• A collaboration between Bommynite Music and Sunday Sludgeathon which saw Jerome Derradji of Still Music, Chicago play a live set at the after show party of ‘Aim’ when they performed in Liverpool.
• TrusMe (Still Music) & Tim Esq (Pop Vox Records) both from ManchesterAnd of course Nick’s own schedule of DJing commitments locally, nationally and internationally.Selling vinyl and CDsNick has developed a client base of music-hounds and DJs that come to him for his in depth knowledge of the music scene and ability to track down the best in the latest dance music. He focuses on the following genres;Nu-jazz, Afro-beat, Hip-Hop, US house, Latin jazz, Latin house, Soul, Funk, UK house, Disco, Broken Beat, Jazz and Drum and Bass.The foundation stone of Bommynite Music is all about customer service and for this reason Nick does not sell via the web – preferring instead to work face to face with customers to develop a network of people that can work together.DJ and Artist ManagementThis work is done on a consultancy basis and draws upon;• Bommynite’s network of contacts in the buying world, live performers, promoters and artists.
