Born in Montréal, Chantal Hamel (cc Hamel) moved with her family to Coquitlam, British Columbia (BC) at the tender age of nine; an age where she could retain some memories of her childhood life in the native French culture. In her search for her identity, Chantal discovered and explored her talents in music, art, and dance as forms of communication. It wasn't until she reached her early 20's, however, that she made her talents known to the public. She began revealing her creative side by producing and privately selling her paintings in Prince George, BC. Without mentorship or formal training in music and art, Chantal pursued her education in science where she eventually attained her Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management. During her academic career, Chantal began exposing her musical and vocal talents by entering Karaoke contests and participating in Prince George fund-raising events.
Chantal's journey as a singer/artist began in the late summer of 2005. Talent, passion, and charisma have attracted many new opportunities for her. Since 2005, Chantal performed in several events within her community, including: the National Anthem for the UNBC 2004 convocation, St.Jean Baptist at the PG French Canadian Circle, the National Anthem with a half-hour set for Canada Day 2005, SunFest 2005, 10 sets over four days at the PG Exhibition, her debut concert at Art Space followed by her first promotional cross-Canada tour (August 31 to September 22, 2005). Since, she has performed in the First Nations Story Telling Festival Folkfest 2006, amongst many other small events and has attended workshops pertaining to interpretation of songs. Over the past year, she has begun to rediscover her French identity and is exploring her music within the Western French culture. On December 16th, 2006, Chantal put on her First Annual Christmas concert at the Prince George Playhouse.
As an artist and musical entertainer with interests in multifarious issues (literacy, children and women welfare, environmental, and Urban/Rural Aboriginal), it is Chantalâ€--s (cc Hamel) hope to make her mark on society. She believes that music and art are the language of the soul; the language that tells stories and reaches deep within the human spirit. By sharing her gifts, beginning with her own community, she hopes that she can instill hope and courage in everyone to pursue their dreams. Her biggest dream yet to come true is for someone to discover her talents and to help her become an influential performer.
Née à Montréal, QC, Chantal Hamel (cc Hamel) a déménagé avec sa famille à Coquitlam, C.-B. à l’âge de neuf ans. Elle a pu ainsi à cet âge, conserver le souvenir d’une enfance empreinte de culture française. A la recherche de son identité, Chantal s’est découvert de nombreux talents artistiques: elle a exploré le Monde de la Musique, des Beaux-Arts et de la Danse comme formes de communication. Cependant, ce n’est que vers l’âge de vingt ans qu’elle a commencé à faire connaître ses talents artistiques au grand public: elle a d’abord révélé sa créativité en produisant, en exposant et en vendant ses toiles à Prince George, C.-B. Sans “Mentor†ni formation officielle en Musique ou en Arts, Chantal a poursuivi ses études à l’Université UNBC de Prince George d’où elle a obtenu un Bacchalauréat en Science en Aménagement des Ressources Naturelles. Pendant la durée de ses études, Chantal a commencé à exprimer ses talents musicaux et vocaux en s’inscrivant à Prince George à des concours de Karaoké et en participant à de nombreuses levées de fonds.
La carrière de Chantal en tant qu’Interprète et Artiste a débuté vers la fin de l’été 2005. Son talent, sa passion et son charisme ont attiré de toutes nouvelles opportunités à cette chanteuse locale en plein épanouissement. Tout au long de l’année, Chantal a participé à de nombreux événements au sein de sa communauté: elle a interprété l’Hymne National du Canada lors de la remise des Bacchalauréats de l’Université UNBC, la Fête de la St-Jean-Baptiste au Cercle Canadien-Français, représentation de 30 minutes à la Fête du Canada 2005, le “SunFest†2005, 10 représentations sur une période de quatre jours à l’Exposition de PG, son tout premier Concert au Art Space suivi de sa première tournée promotionelle trans-canadienne du 31 Août au 22 Septembre 2005. Depuis elle s’est produite au “First Nations Story Telling Festival†et s’est inscrite à son premier atelier sur l’interprétation des chansons. Durant l’an de 2006 et 2007, Chantal at s’est produite aussi au PG Folkfest, sont premier concert de Noël, a plusieurs evenements hommages aux benevols, Les fetes Canada. Depuis la dernière année, elle redécouvre son identité française et intègre sa musique à la culture francophone de l’Ouest.
En tant qu’Artiste qui s’intéresse aux problèmes d’analphabétisation, au bien-être des autochtones, des femmes et des enfants et à l’écologie, Chantal espère faire sa marque dans la société. Elle croit que la Musique et les Beaux-Arts sont le language de l’âme – le language des récits qui pénètrent au plus profond de l’esprit humain. En partageant ses dons avec sa communauté proche, elle espère semer l’espoir et le courage afin que chacun puisse réaliser leur rêves.
