Chris is a violinist/fiddler since the age of ten and a drumer/percussionist since the age of 12. He also plays mandolin, guitar, mallet percussion, and occasionally bass guitar, piano, but never a saxaphone. Though he is schooled in many instruments, Chris considers himself a creative musician and is passionate about the song. He is an accomplished songwriter penning tunes for the Andy Shaw Band (check out Lit Up on the Ways of the World LP) as well as his own solo project and the Shaw Brothers duo. He is a founding member of the Andy Shaw Band (drums) as well as the Shaw Brothers duo (violin/fiddle/djembe/mandolin/guitar/vocals). He is the lead/fiddle/mandolin player in Matt Monta and the Hot Coal Band. Chris has toured in the Midwest in the states and Europe. In May 2009 he toured with Jonalee White and her band through Italy, Germany, Turkey, The Netherlands, Egypt, and Kosovo. He has played or sat in locally with The Floorwalkers, Jakob Freely, Miss Molly, Eric Nassau, Sirens, and many many more. ----------------------------- Design wise, Chris holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Columbus College of Art and Design. He has worked for Express, Lane Bryant, DSW, Wonderful Graffiti, Peter Parket LLC, The Ryan Partnership, and other agencies around town. His passion for design tends to lean toward music posters, album art, band logos, and stickers. He loves color, bauhaus, hand drawn type, halftone patterns, and the artist Shag, among other things. He does all the design work for Andy Shaw Band/The Shaw Brothers and has worked with Christian Howes, Matt Monta, The Floorwalkers, and Miss Molly designing album art, posters, stickers, and more. He would love to design a poster for your band or help you with your album art so just contact him already!

Influences: For violin I am very much influenced by Stephen Grapelli as well as a woman named Carolyn Cutler who taught me most of my fiddlin' knowledge. Drumming wise I would say Adrian Young of No Doubt is one of my favorite drummers of all time. Ringo is also a huge influence. A lot of my reggae influence comes from him and Bob Marley's drummers. The song is what truly turns me on and some writers/bands I really enjoy include: The Beatles, No Doubt, Norah Jones, Jamiroquai, Ryan Adams, John Mayer, Paul Simon, Ben Harper, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Shins, Johnny Cash, 311, John Lennon, Andy Shaw (my brother, amazing writer), Ray Lamontagne, Fleet Foxes, Amos Lee, Nickel Creek, Gomez, Kings of Leon, Andrew Bird, Willie Nelson, The White Stripes, Eminem, Rufus Wainwright, Radiohead, The Police, Paul McCartney, Martin Sexton, Loretta Lynn, Jason Mraz, Hank Williams Sr., Jack Johnson, Dixie Chicks, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Cake, Talib Kweli, Bob Marley, to name just a few.
