When my Motor City Momma and Tornado Alley Daddy met, it was love at first sight. Fortunately, they had the good sense to plant roots in the greatest state of them all...TEXAS!
As a baby, I had a bottle in one hand and a crescent wrench in the other (I kept the wrench as I got older, but the stuff in the bottle changed a bit). Growing up in Fort Worth was great, but it's hard for a girl who loves cars and fishnets to fit in. A few years passed and I realized I needed to ramble down my own road.
Wiping the tears away with a shop rag, I said goodbye to Momma and Daddy and packed up my rod with my cowboy boots, a socket set and the hope of finding people who understood that ruby red lips and grease under fingernails are a sure bet when making a fashion statement.
...That's how I ended up with the lovely ladies of the Assassination City Roller Derby. I found the people I was looking for all along....other girls who never quite fit in (or never quite conformed) - and they're stronger, meaner and more beautiful for it!
I still turn wrenches and wear red lipstick, but now I have a gang of girls who back me up. Come out to see us skate sometime. I'm the one with a shop rag in my pocket - who's a still a little bit greasemonkey AND a little bit glamorous.
