Many singing careers start with a talent show – southern performer LaDy is no exception. Her debut studio album, 'Talent Show', is a fresh view of the hip-hop world, seen from the eyes of a young multi-faceted artist.
Hailing from Texas, LaDy was originally drawn to musical expression while watching her father write songs and sing around the house. A true family woman, she credits her mother and sister as her greatest inspirations, stating that unconditional love is an important motivator for her. But don't be fooled by her talk of love - she has garnered a reputation for being tough and to-the-point. In her own words, her music and unique style is "showing that it is possible to be wanton without being a whore, that women are victims but also the victimizers, that we are glamorous without the scantily clad clothing, and that we possess a mental strength to stand on our own that we are rarely given credit for."
Finding the current music industry passionless, LaDy strives to bring that passion back with her honest lyrics and musical finesse. As she observes that the music business has become more about business and less about music, LaDy stands up and challenges other artists who are only in it for the money. Also a songwriter, she is rarely without her notebook and pen, taking inspiration from day-to-day life and using the world as her muse.
LaDy considers herself to be both an artist and a student of R&B and hip-hop, gaining knowledge from those who came before her. She is intent on making her own mark on the genres. Not wanting to limit herself to one musical style, LaDy creates a sound which transitions easily into many genres. 'Talent Show' is a showcase of her efforts, displaying her distinctive sound and intriguing approach.
While LaDy would love to find overnight success and fame with her album, it is more important for her to inspire a stranger with her words and music: "My goal for this project is to sell one CD to someone I don't know, someone who is not a personal friend or family member. That in and of itself will mean that I'm a success, especially if that person says to me that they felt a connection to what I was saying." Determination, passion, talent, and honesty are all evident on 'Talent Show'. She has a vision and drive, and will not let anyone stand in her way of success.
When it comes to her views on music, her own words say it best: "Music is a movie without the pictures; you have to formulate your words so that the image is vivid and tattooed on the mind of the listener. I can't draw, but I'll be damned if I'm not a tattoo artist." Spoken like a true lady.
