About Me

For anyone who doesn't know, Tom Wilson is a legendary scottish DJ who passed away on March 25th 2004. This site is a small tribute to a man who touched many peoples lives all over the world, and probably didnt realise it. Tom was one of the pioneers of the scottish dance music scene in the 80s, 90s and into the new millenium. His hugely successful forth one radio show 'steppin out' attracted a huge audience, and its a well known fact that people would drive from all areas in order to be in range to listen to his show on forth one. The show was taped on a regular basis by many people and it was very normal for requests and shouts to be made to people all over the world as these tapes would be sent out to friends and relations all over the world. Anyone who was still at school during the 90s may remember swapping tapes in classes. Tom's success reached out to people of all ages and despite broadcasting on a station with a radius that reaches Edinburgh, the lothians and fife, the success of his show was much more far reaching than that. His show was a multi- award winning success and cemented his name in radio history. Tom was also a successful music producer, creating the dance anthem Technocat which gave him a UK top 40 hit and chart success in europe. Tom had another radio show called bonus beats which first aired in the mid 90s, due to the success of the scottish dance scene, this show gave many up and coming djs a chance to have their mixes aired on radio. Tom was a champion for new talent, and gave many new acts their first break. Acts like TTF owe their success to a man who in so many ways was like scotlands answer to john peel. In the early part of this century tom hosted an old skool show on beat 106, called bouncin' back. This led to him releasing three old skool compilation albums of the same name. He then returned to radio forth and continued the success of this show on sunday nights between 7 and 9pm. For many people like myself it was a chance to return to the memories of the dance scene of the 90s and tom presented it in his own unique style. A style no other dj could immitate or replace. A style and a show that has become sorely missed since his sudden passing in 2004 of a heart attack. Tom was also in demand as a club DJ too, appearing across the country at Awesome 101, Fantazia, ReZerection and The Fubar.Ask anyone about Tom Wilson and they will all say one thing... legend! This myspace page is just a wee tribute to him and a place for fans to come together and remember a great man.

THIS COMMENT IS COURTESY OF WILKPEDIA................................................... ......................................................... Grant Stott recalled his first meeting with Tom, in 1990 when Grant was just six months in his radio career. He'd been moved from overnights on the AM station to the FM 10:00pm to 1:00am slot: '"This was a massive opportunity for me and to say I was a tad nervous about it would be a big understatement. I was sitting at my desk in the programming department thinking about how many pairs of pants I was going to get through that night, when I felt this arm around me. It was Tom. He gave me a quick pat on the back and said: "Welcome Aboard, mate!". My self confidence was, at that point, almost zero, so to get what seemed like a vote of acceptance from one of the "big boys" was a huge boost. I never told him how much those words meant to me that day.Over the years, our friendship grew through our mutual love of music and mutual dislike for each other's football teams. This was the man who left a can of Fosters on my desk the Monday after Hearts had beaten Hibernian in an Easter Road cup-tie. Wind-ups were common place. One of my favourites was when I got my studio assistant at the time, Helen, to phone him up while he was on-air, pretending to be a sweet Irish lass called Mary. She wanted to send all her love to her husband Joseph and their little puppy Jesus. Incredible, I know, but he bought it - hook, line, and sinker. I waited until he was reading it out on-air and then, through the glass, let him know it was a wind up. I daren't repeat what he called me, but he was so angry, he refused to pay for bacon rolls for a week. He had a few nicknames as well - Uncle Tom, Techno Tom and Tommy Tetley, inspired by a long-running promotion on his show. He had a few double-barrelled ones for me as well, mostly starting with "Hibby...................................................... ............................................................ ............................................................ ...................................................AND K-KLASS....... much respect to you for keeping the memories alive. we came across Tom on many occasions as Scotland was such a hotbed for us and the last time we came across him was at Colorfest doing the Classics arena which would have been shortly before he passed away. Thank you for looking us up and joining us in the crazy cyber world of MySpace,as our friend. Paul & Russ K-Klass..................................................... ............................................................
