Born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI Valetta Felix, known by her fans as Ms. Chyna D, has always had a passion for poetry and music; in particular, hip-hop. A few years after high school she became friends with L.O.K., a member of the underground hip-hop group Collision. After going to a couple of their shows and sitting in on a few studio sessions, Chyna D was inspired to turn some of her poetry into hip hop lyrics. Since then she has been perfecting her skills as a lyricist and a performer. On February 15, 2008 she released her debut album, The Kid Got Swag, and hosted a CD release party in which she performed every track from her album and included performances from other local artists.
