Myspace BackgroundsRSPCA Qld was founded in 1883 and is the oldest and leading animal welfare charity in the state.Dedicated to improving the welfare of all domestic, farmed, and wild animals, RSPCA Qld is the only charity with powers of prosecution under the 2001 Queensland Animal Care and Protection Act. The Act sets a benchmark for animal welfare legislation incorporating concepts of the internationally recognised Five Freedoms and the duty of care to animals. The RSPCA Gold Coast and Hinterland Branch office is located in West Burleigh and covers from Beenleigh and Jimboomba down to Coolangatta in the south. We support a full-time Animal Ambulance and full-time Cruelty Inspector. This branch is staffed solely by volunteers and all the monies raised go directly to helping our little furry, feathered, or scaled friends! Many people believe we're a government agency - we're not - we're a private charity dedicated to providing animal care and protection services.Over 41,000 animals passed through RSPCA Qld's doors last year, and our annual operating costs were over $14 million. We received a goverment grant for 2% of that (just 2%!) which means we had to raise the other $13 million ourselves. That also means we rely on fundraisers, bequests and wills, donations from the public, and thrift shop income to keep ourselves in business. There are five thrift shops which earn us a good income: Nerang, Nobby Beach, North Tamborine, Robina, and West Burleigh.Log onto our website at www.rspcaqld.org.au for more information on how you can help the RSPCA help those who can't help themselves.
