Padraig Rushe Singer/Songwriter:
In May 2008, Padraig Rushe became the 1st Irish Artist to be featured on MTV’s “THE CONTENDERSâ€, an annual talent competition in association with Oxjam which seeks to find and showcase the best of new unsigned talent across the UK & Ireland. As one of the 50 initial acts to be short listed, Rushe was the only Irish act to make it to final 17 featured artists for 2008, and was subsequently showcased across MTV 1, MTV Hits & TMF over a three month period. Having received the seal of approval from the MTV Industry Judges and over 200,000 online voters, Padraig headed straight into Sun Studios in Dublin’s Temple Bar to begin recording his much anticipated debut solo album, due for release early 2009.
A seasoned performer and published songwriter, Rushe has spent 6 years honing his craft and paying his dues as a member of the Dublin Gospel Choir, writing, singing and arranging for the group in addition to working on his own album. As a member of the choir Rushe has already released three albums and toured nationwide in addition to performing with many artists including Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan, Paul Noonan, Nitin Sawhney, The Hot House and the legendary James Brown.
It was however through the choir's work with Paddy Casey that Rushe not only made a friend in Casey but the key contact he would need, in the form of Casey’s first Producer Pat Donne. In 2007, with Donne onboard to produce, Rushe left the Gospel Choir to complete his debut album (eight years in the writing) and established his own Independent Label, Loud Child.
As he reflects on the journey, his critical recognition to date and the road he has travelled it is clear that Rushe is committed to his music above all else: “Whatever happens, whatever its taken to get here… I’ve made the album I needed to make…everything that comes next is an added bonusâ€
Padraig Rushe releases his Debut Album in March 2009 on his Independent Label Loud Child.
