My name is Jarritt Sheel. I am originally from Fort Lauderdale, FL, and a graduate of Florida A&M; University. I currently attend Northern Illinois University were I am getting my Masters of Music in Jazz Studies(performance). It is obvious that my profession is music and I love to do what I do. I am a poet, short story writer, painter, arranger, and musician. I began my study of the trumpet at age 15 at the Dillard High School(Cannonball Adderley) in Fort Lauderdale FL. Under the tutelage of Leroy Gibbs and Nate Dunlap, I learned all the basics. After my first year of public school study I joined the marching band and tried out for the school of the arts program. I was getting so into music. It was really becoming my life. I had one fated evening when my car was hit by a drunk driver and I had my jaw broke in 3 places. That one incident changed my outlook on music. I decided to take a science scholarship to Florida A&M; University for mechanical engineering. Upon arrival I decided to take the trumpet back up and join the incomparable Marching 100. Over the years I loved my time there with the band and eventually took the gamble and changed my major to my first love music. In 2000 I was afforded the great opportunity to join the Walt Disney College Music Program, and for the next 5 years I was able to perform with musicians from all over America. In 2004 I was a member of the Walt Disney All-American College Band. Since then I have performed with tons of great people, artist, musicians, at numerous venues, all of which have been great experiences. Now I live in the Chicago area were I am studying( W/ Art Davis) to become an even better musician. I have met more great musicians in one year then all my life in Florida, i.e.; Nick Payton, Roy Hargrove, David Sanchez, Terell Stafford, Matt Wilson, Stacy Dillard, Winard Harper, Ira Sullivan, Corey Wilkes, Maurice Brown, Chris Potter, Antonio Hart, and many more to come.So, after all this I have to make this happen in Florida. I am currently a graduate student at the Northern Illinois University. playing lead trumpet for the Ron Carter(sax/ phenomenal jazz educator). I'm a student of jazz studies.I love all music and like Blue Mitchell(fellow Floridian) strive to tap into the soul of whatever form of music I'm inspired to create or perform. My main goal for being on myspace is to get so many friends that i don't recognize any of them and begin to leave meaningless "stock-card" comments on their pages.
