From Chicago to the East Coast and from the West Coast to the South of France, Jerry DeVivo's career as a professional musician has spanned two continents and nearly two decades, solidifying his status as one of music’s elite performers.
Jerry was raised on the sounds of Jazz, Blues, Motown, and Classic Soul by his mother and father who both loved music with a passion. Rooted in these sounds, Jerry started playing with blues bands in Chicago clubs at the age of 16. He attended Notre Dame High School in Niles, IL where he was very active in the music program, and then attended Benedictine University in Lisle, IL as a Jazz Performance double major (Tenor Sax & Drum Set). Upon completion of the program at B.U. Jerry’s professional career began to flourish when he joined up with a few local musicians who called themselves The Mighty Blue Kings. Forging himself as an original member of MBK, his nine year stay with them featured Jerry on four full-length releases on drums and one on Tenor Saxophone. His time spent with MBK brought Jerry to 49 states and a dozen countries as he performed alongside such greats as Tony Bennet, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Lou Rawls, Pete Townshend, and John Mellencamp.
Compelled to answer his calling, Jerry took the helm of his own Jerry DeVivo Band as the singer-songwriter/tenor-saxophonist front-man. Jerry’s intense, high-energy, yet refined live performances mix original songs with timeless soul/funk classics. His self-titled debut release, “Jerry DeVivo Band,” reveals an origin rooted in jazz with prevalent blues and soul influences.
Jerry’s next album, “Musical Exorcism,” is a collaboration with singer-songwriter/musician-producer, Carey Ott, with whom Jerry has cultivated a unique musical bond. Jerry has been traveling to Nashville to put in work on the co-performed, produced, and composed album with Carey. "Musical Exorcism" promises to be the most soulful, grooving, organic, and unique work of Jerry’s career and pledges to "turn back the hands of time." This new work will undoubtedly be as relevant and striking today as it will be well into the future.
