I have been writing poetry since I was 9 years old. I have wrote hundreds of poems and short stories as a kid, and had many of them published in major works. So in that sense, I've been lyrically inclined for quite awhile. When I was 14, I started actually trying to duplicate a lot of the stuff I heard on the radio, breaking it down to its simplest form and trying to build back up my own version of the same thing. By the time I was 16, I was writing full verses in 16 bar form, although at that point had not tried to put anything to a beat. I was unsure how to access the equipment necessary to actually record, nor did I feel like I had the voice for it.
When I was 18, I was challenged by a friend of mine, who sent me an instrumental that he deemed "near impossible" to rap to. I sent him back a 2 verse song, complete with chorus, recorded over a webcam microphone. He was shocked, blown away that not only did I complete the task, but killed the beat. At this point, I realized I might actually have a talent for this sorta thing. I kept writing, but took every opportunity to freestyle and practice different creative methods to get my thoughts out. At one point I was a far better freestyler than writer, but persevered to make the transition. Don't get me wrong, I can still freestyle at the drop of a hat, but I knew what I truly wanted to do.
I joined up with a childhood friend of mine and formed a group we called "Lost Cause" in August of 2004. We ended up putting out a 14 track self-titled "album" in June of 2005. It had mediocre success, and spurred us to do a multitude of local shows and parties. Not too long after, BFA made a move to Florida, and the group was put on hold.
To pass time, I worked on a couple mixtapes, one put out by myself titled "Mercury", released in July of 2007, complete with 17 tracks. I also formed a group, or super-duo as is more appropriate, with a talented artist named JLR. We were close to finishing our own mixtape when I moved to Florida myself, trying to find success with the aforementioned Lost Cause.
Upon my arrival in the Sunshine State, things were starting to look up. We recorded a few new tracks pretty soon after I got down there, and did a show as well. However, among other things, it appeared as if creative differences came between the two of us, and in March of 2008, I made the decision to move back to Michigan without him and work diligently on my own solo project. But before I left, I made sure to record a track with the wickedly talented Twigz and Klepto, also known as Sick for Brains. "Torture Zone" is definitely the most sadistic track I've ever been a part of, but also one of the dopest.
As I returned to Michigan, I had two choices. I could either join back up with JLR and try to work on something as a group. Or I could see what a solo project would entail. I decided to try the solo thing. I was feeling extremely creative, and thought this would be the best way to go. A few months later, and "The Evolution of Communication", my debut solo album, is now available. The album release party was a success, and now the goal is to put the project into the hands of everyone possible. It is by far the greatest project that I've ever been involved in. So message me and I will personally deliver an album to you if you want one. I promise you it is well worth the $8 purchase.
Now, I go forward promoting this, as well as working on a few upcoming projects. Stay tuned for more information and, as always, thank you for the continued support.
