Mara Rosenbloom

Wisconsin born composer, pianist, and arranger, Mara Rosenbloom has spent the past 6 years building her home in New York City, performing and studying with such world renowned musicians as Kenny Werner, Ralph Alessi, Jim McNeely, Gil Goldstein, Robert Dick and Dr. Justin Dello Joio. Surrounded by her mother’s blues and folk records – Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Bonnie Raitt – and her father’s love of jazz – Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk, Mara grew up with an inherent sense of songwriting and desire to improvise. Mara’s compositions can now be heard breathing through the Mara Rosenbloom Quartet, where her instrumental songs sing with an organic sense of storyline, melodic honesty, and textural excitement on her debut release as a leader, "School of Fish."Mara has performed her original music at clubs and festivals throughout the New York Area (55 bar, the Jazz Gallery, JVC Jazz Festival NY) as well as internationally (Italy, Peru, Dominican Republic) Mara's composition for jazz big band have been premiered at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York, and her Compositions for Tentet were recently conducted by and performed alongside the music of Jim McNeely. In addition to her own quartet, Mara has also arranged for and performed with Internationally-acclaimed Afro-Peruvian singer Eva Ayllon, and the Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Jazz Ensemble (Performance at Festival Jazz Peru 2008).In addition to writing and performing, Mara also currently teaches both composition and piano out of her brooklyn home.
