About Me

This is a fan page. Concrete Sox are not reunited nor is this an official page.
Concrete Sox formed 1984 at the heart of what seemed to be an explosion of hardcore and metal music, Nottingham, United Kingdom and also part of Derby. They were one of the earliest hybrid metal/hardcore bands to come out of the UK as well as arguably one of the earliest examples of a hardcore band leaning towards metal music (this is typically referred to as "crossover thrash" nowadays) who had an animal and politically conscious message in their music.
The band played "fastcore" style hardcore during their early days but it's was much more extreme and technical than your typical Discharge influenced hardcore band. They played hardcore with many thrash-metal style riffs thrown in over their leftist political-themed lyrics, tackling topics like animal rights, war, imperialism and general human error. Later in the band's career, they would play a much more crust punk/hardcore sounding style than their crossover style which was evident on earlier releases.
Ultimately, around 1994, the band would split up but reunite around 1998 for some shows around Europe. Once again though, they would break up and since then, around 1999, they have been silent for sometime now. Over the years, however, they've managed to gain respect equally from fellow punkers as well as metalheads. Though they seem to be heavily forgotten and ignored by many hardcore fans today, they were a huge influence on many future hardcore and metal bands with their groundbreaking style of hardcore music.
