I am an anti-brilliant, small time big shot. I admire the edges more than the middle, coloring outside the lines, truth & humility. I believe in love, grace and forgiveness but unfortunately at the moment I do hit back. My ultimate goal is to become what I believe and believe what I do. I am very shy but for some reason I keep getting up in front of people I don't know and spilling my guts. Here are a few places I've played: churches, bars, coffee shops, all kinds of parties (frat, birthday, cross dressing, christmas, etc.), postal conventions, parking lots (lots and lots), living rooms, kitchens, basements,packed out mobile homes for clothing optional people,medium size venues (opening only), small venues (in front of 2 people), boat docks, 1st baptist picnics, balls (beaux-arts), schools, dives (got my face smashed by an acid washed crack queen), fields, festivals, around campfires,record stores, book stores and weddings, but mostly at home for my beautiful wife Jenifer for whom I started writing songs for many years ago.

All the things people truly love about American rock are embodied by Tidwell and his band.

In the music biz they call this Roots Rock. It is a hybrid of Country and Rock, first made popular in the 60's by The Band, Dylan's one-time back up musicians. The songs have an honesty about them that makes the listener feel good and whole. Tidwell does a fine job here.

Hailing from South Carolina, Tony Tidwell and The Scalded Dogs take country as a divining rod, and seem to strike auga wherever they point it. At their core are Tidwell's songs, which work a little folk magic of their own. He's a storyteller with an eagle's eye and the fear of God, suggesting a Roots Rock Tom Waits or penitent John Hiatt.

To state it simply, Tony Tidwell & the Scalded Dogs have released an excellent country and southern roots-rock CD that really doesn't deserve the "No Depression" label that would likely be applied to it in some other journal. I would simply call this CD good, honest, rootsy, American music. Knowing music like this is available, it's no wonder I can't stomach country radio.

This is a songwriter equally at home slamming through a three-chord barnstormer or singing a low, mournful elegy to the passing traditions of the South. By all accounts an amazing record. They're as heartfelt as Neil Young and as cool-wave as Elvis Costello.
