In 2005 I began my jazz piano studies in the Sibelius Academy Jazz Department, where I have had private lessons with with Jarmo Savolainen, Jukkis Uotila, Jim Beard and Mikael Jakobsson to name a few. In the spring 2009 I finished my Bachelor studies there; and currently I'm studying the first year of my Master's Degree as an exchange student in The Royal College of Music in Stockholm. I'm working as a freelance piano player in the Helsinki jazz scene along with my studies. I have had a chance to cooperate and perform with some of the best players and groups in Finland, such as Jari Perkiömäki, Teemu Viinikainen, Jussi Kannaste, Markus Ketola, Sibis Big Band, The Great Helsinki Swing Band, Wade Mikkola Band and William Suvanne Band. I have also my own group called Tuomas Juhani Turunen Trio. I compose music for my trio, and I've written a big band composition that got in to the finals of national big band composers' competition (Esko Linnavalli Big Band Competition) in Imatra the summer of 2009 where it was performed with UMO Jazz Orchestra. I also got the 4th Price in the Nomme Jazz Piano Competition '09 with a couple of festival engagements in Pori Jazz 2009 and Kaunas Jazz 2010.
I wish you all the best, and I hope you'll enjoy what you hear on my site!
Regards,Tuomas
