USS WYOMING SSBN 742

About Me

This electronic media is a representation of the experiences of 162 men throughout a strategic deterrent patrol. Without the sacrifices that these sailors take, our country would not have the capability to be a force of reckoning throughout the world as we are today. Every day, thousands of these men are deployed beneath the surface of the ocean. They work in the belly of the black beast throughout the days and nights that they can not see. Breathing recycled air, hoping for a message from home stating that everything is all right. It is to these men and their families that this page is dedicated.
USS WYOMING (SSBN 742) is named after the 44th state in nation. Three former ships (sloop-of-war, monitor, and battleship) have had the honor to bear the name WYOMING. WYOMING is the 17th OHIO class Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine, the Navy's largest and the most powerful built in America. Her mission is to provide the sea-based “Leg” of the Triad of U.S. strategic forces. Wyoming is capable of carrying 24 TRIDENT II (D-5) Submarine Launched Missiles. She was christened at Electric Boat Shipyard, in Groton, CT on July 15, 1995 and was commissioned and officially joined the fleet on July 13, 1996.

Some things that every sailor will always remember are the ports that they have visited. During the summer of 2000, we had the opportunity to go to a port outside of the country. Although not outside of the continent, Nova Scotia was a warm welcome compared to the alternative of remaining at sea. Many of crew enjoyed the atmosphere of downtown (Liquor Dome) while others preferred to adventure outside of the city limits. Whatever the sites were to be seen, Halifax will always remain a fond memory. SHIP MOORED AT NAVY PIER (A), HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA CANADA.
