About Me

Hello my name is Rewben Mashangva and I come from the small village called Choithar in the Ukhrul district of Manipur. Nowdays I live in the Nagaram locality of Imphal with my wife, three daughters and son.
I am a folk singer, musician & composer, instrument maker, researcher & guide working for the preservation and development of our tribal folk music. Its been more than 15years that I have been doing this, its very tough and difficult but there's nothing else I would rather do. My life is dedicated to Music...
Being from the Tankhul tribe, the music i play is called HAO music and the main instruments I use when performing are the 'Tingtelia', a traditional violin type instrument which took me 7years to modify to suit what I was doing musically and the 'Yankahui', a long traditional bamboo flute which I have now modified to be more consistent tonally. The acoustic guitar and harmonica are the other two instruments I use a lot. So far I have released two albums 'Naga Folk Blues' and 'Creation'
These days whenever possible my son Saka joins me onstage playing a traditional cowbell and singing. We both have the Thankhul hairstyle called 'Haokuirat' and its quite interesting seeing peoples reactions when they see the two of us.
