About Me

Contact Andy by email. Swedish-born Andy Salvanos is one of Australia's few active Chapman Stick players. Originally a bassist, he worked as a session musician in Los Angeles for nearly a decade. After moving to Australia in the 90's, he played with Adelaide bands JBE and Earth Dwellers, and also performed with Archie Roach on "The Tracker" soundtrack. After a break from professional music, Andy released the album "Fragments" in 2007, featuring the 10-string Chapman Stick and soon established himself as a performer of melodic, original music. His second CD, "Closer", highlights Andy's simple, effective use of the Stick, featuring elements of classical guitar, folk, Latin and new age. Since 1988 he has played at hundreds of venues including the National Folk Festival, The Melbourne Concert Hall, The Adelaide Festival Centre and many of the famous rock music venues in California. Andy is also an avid street musician who can often be found playing in Rundle Mall. He recently performed at the 2008 Adelaide International Guitar Festival and is currently writing music for his next album. CLOSER online at CD Baby:

Influences: I still have a lot of early musical memories of my grandmother playing her grand piano. Now my daughter is playing the same instrument.Influences? I can list hundreds of bands and players, but...I've been lucky enough to work with some great musicians and performers in different parts of the world. These people are my greatest influence. Some of them are also my best friends. My goal is to make every note matter. I'm still working on it. Music is a listening art. Take it or leave it, my music belongs to YOU.I believe that we owe our kids the world, not the other way around.I believe in doing something I enjoy while I'm here.Sometimes I think that living up to your "potential" is achieved by doing just the opposite. My current favourite quotes by musician Juana Molina: "Either the youth is inside or not. I can’t believe how old I am, because I don’t feel old. You grow up, and you’re 20, 30, 40, 50, 60. But you are still 20, even if you are 40...I had the time to realize I was doing something I wasn’t supposed to be doing and that I was going to die and get really old without doing what I wanted to be doing all my life..."Love to you all - thanks for listening!Send me email.
Sounds Like: Melodic original music.

I'm basically a nice guy. My childhood was ruled by two wonderful, headstrong women who unfortunately fought about everything. So I blame them for growing up a non-confrontational, fence-sitting, nice...

Busking

Busking...IS a legitimate way to make a living. It's free market capitalism at its extreme, for better or worse. If nobody likes you, you don't get paid. And if they DO like you but the economy is in ...
