Swedish-born Andy Salvanos is one of Australia's few active Chapman Stick players. Originally a bassist, he worked as a session musician in Los Angeles for nearly a decade. After moving to Australia in the 90's, he played with Adelaide bands JBE and Earth Dwellers, and also performed with Archie Roach on "The Tracker" soundtrack.After a break from professional music, Andy released the album "Fragments" in 2007, featuring the 10-string Chapman Stick and soon established himself as a performer of melodic, original music. His second CD, "Closer", highlights Andy's simple, effective use of the Stick, featuring elements of classical guitar, folk, Latin and new age. Since 1988 he has played at hundreds of venues including the National Folk Festival, The Melbourne Concert Hall, The Adelaide Festival Centre and many of the famous rock music venues in California. Andy is also an avid street musician who can often be found playing in Rundle Mall. He recently performed at the 2008 Adelaide International Guitar Festival and is currently writing music for his next album.
