About Me

I am a serious student of Jazz guitar - primarily bluesy and mainstream Jazz. I began music at the age of 6, studying violin and was playing in orchestras by the age of 12. But somehow I took a different path at university.

I've returned to music in the past few years with a keen interest in becoming an accomplished Jazz guitarist.

Actually, the way I got back into Jazz was through my son, who started playing advanced Jazz percussion. He got me listening again, and from there playing again. Others who have helped me personally along the way include Lorne Lofsky , Brent Rowan , and Tung Le , and of course my wife.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Quartet w/ fellow musicians:
Brent Rowan, saxophones
Jesse Turton, bass
Scott McQuaig, drums

Influences: Too many to list really, people who have directly influenced my play, i.e. those who have listened to me and pointed me in a better direction, include Lorne Lofsky, Brent Rowan, Ivan Zilman, and Tung Le. Otherwise, of course listening to recordings of the Jazz greats has influenced my play. I like to listen and work with horn players in building lines, as well as guitarists. Of all the great Canadian horn players, Guido Basso has to be top of my list.
Sounds Like: Warm, jazzy, melodic, and liking to play Jazz standards. Quality of the sound is pure guitar Jazz, created by a Gibson ES-175 played through a Rivera Chubster amp. Very warm, tube sound.
Type of Label: Unsigned
