Bio
Describing one's sentiments of CRISSY COLLINS may be as easy as picking up a thesaurus. Just don't look to find a synonym for her style of music. This inspirational recording artists writes and sings songs that transcend definition and just speaks to the heart of the listener.
Crissy Collins was born in Niagra Falls, New York. She was introduced to the world at the tender age of 4 by way of a Jerry Lewis Telethon. There, she performed a heartfelt rendition of "Jesus Loves The Little Children." Realizing her ability to capture an audience, she later went on to establish a singing group with her sister, followed by a quartet that included her aunt, aptly entitled The Collins Sisters and The Collins Sisters & Company, respectfully. In 1985, a fateful singing under the Atlanta based Meltone Records found a 13 year old Crystal moving to Georgia to be closer to the label. He Cares was the title of the sub-radar Gospel album put out by the Collins Sisters on Meltone. "Being on an independent label was challenging because they didn't have all the tools and staff needed to promote our album the way it should have been", Crissy adds.
However, being on a label did have its advantages. As The Collins Sisters traveled the US promoting their debut album, they not only got to go places they never imagined going, they also encountered a multitude of people that would later help them in their search for stardom. This experience ultimately afforded Crissy the opportunity to sing background for legendary Gospel and R&B artists like Luther Vandross, Kelly Price, Glenn Jones, Lil G of Silk, and Dorothy Norwood. Crissy was also featured on Edwin Hawkins' Its Church Time CD.
For nine years, Crissy performed in such inspirational stage plays as "A Good Man Is Hard to Find," "Where Have All The Good Men Gone?" and "Love Should Have Brought You Home." Most recently, she toured with Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail as the incarcerated Chico where she became well known for singing "Yes, Jesus Loves Me/Even Me". She also received a small role (and received credits for and singing on the movie soundtrack in) the box office mega-hit Diary of a Mad Black Woman (Lions Gate Films), and Madea's Family Reunion.
Most recently, Crissy sang background for Beyonce Knowles (The Beyonce Experience Tour-2007), Monica, and Gloria Gayner, traveling extensively to all major U.S. markets, Japan, China, Brazil, Mexico, Autria, and Canada.
Crissy's debut album, Faith in Progress, hits stores on March 20, 2007.
