Marquis L. James is a native of Dolton, Illinois; currently residing in Danville, Kentucky. With his musical talents being recognized early by his parents, he began playing the drums at the age of three. He was the drummer for the children’s choir at First Corinthian Baptist Church (Chicago, IL) at five years old. And was also the drummer for the youth music ministry at Valley Kingdom Ministries International (South Holland, IL) during his teen years. He has played and created drum programs at several concerts and outdoor events around Chicago including the Chicago Gospel Fest. Throughout Marquis’s musical career, he developed other musical talents such as songwriting, drum programming, and producing. He has worked with many local Chicago artists such as, Mys.Michelle, Moni’, Danielle Nightingale and S.O.M, a gospel rap duo. He has been trained by Daniel and Michael Weatherspoon, two of Chicago’s finest musical producers. A few of Marquis’s musical inspirations include, but are not limited to Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, Dr. Dre, and the legendary, Quincy Jones. In 2004, Marquis and his wife Moni’, were honored to write “Higherâ€, the first single to be released from the Shekinah Glory Live album, they were also honored to write (Worthy) on shekinah glory (Jesus) album . Marquis is motivated by many genres of music including Gospel, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. His desire is to write and produce for Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, Beyonce’, Usher and many more.
