AZÚCAR MORENO BIOGRAPHY:
Influenced by disco divas Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor, sisters Toñi and Encarna Salazar used to dream about becoming pop stars.
Encarna began singing and dancing at a very young age and Toñi performed live for the first time at the age of 13 in her native Badajoz.
After singing backup for Los Chunguitos, a band formed by their brothers, they started their own project called Azucar Moreno, debuting in 1984 with Con La Piel En Los Labios and having their breakthrough in 1988 after issuing Carne de Melocotón.
Playing a mixture of contemporary flamenco and rumba/pop, the Spanish duet returned in 1990 with Bandido that was 1 in Eurovision.
During the following years, Encarna and Toñi Salazar had the opportunity to work along with producers Emilio Estefan and Estefano, achieving a Billboard music award and becoming one of the top-selling artists in the Latin pop scene.
The Song Bandido became 1 in Eurovision in Spain and made them have lots of fame in 1990. They began to hit Spain, Europe and Latin America with the hits "Ven Devorame Otra Vez" that became 1 and one of their most known songs, "Oye Como Va", "A Caballo" and "Debajo del Olivo".
In 1991 they released "Mambo" one of their most worldwide best sellers from their career. This album gave them huge success around the world including Latin America, Japan and USA. The album brought spanish classics that were awesome hits like the 1 "Mambo", "Torero" and "Tu Quieres Mas (Porque Te Amo)".
In 1992 they released "Ojos Negros" with songs like "Yo Vendo Unos Ojos Negros", "Moliendo Cafe, "Veneno" and "Hechizo De Luna".
In 1994 they released the album "El Amor" which gave them a Billboard Award in 1996. The album gave them fame in USA and Latin America.
In 1996 they became very famous with their hit 1 single "Solo Se Vive Una Vez" was the song of the summer in Spain in 1996 from their album "Esclava de Tu Piel". And they had another huge hit with "Hoy Tengo Ganas De Ti". "Solo Se Vive Una Vez" is known was the most famous, known and best hit single of Azucar Moreno that made them the stunning spanish duo of the world, you could hear "Solo Se Vive Una Vez" everywhere.
In 1998 Azucar Moreno released "Ole", with another hit single "Ole" and awesome songs like "Mecachis" and "No Pretenderas".
In 2000 Azucar Moreno sold more than one million albums with the hit album "Amen", that made them tour all over the world (Canada, Turkey, USA, Asia, Europe). Amen had hit singles like "Mama Mia", "Amen", "Ay Amor" and "Abracadabra".
In 2002 they hit with the songs "Besame", "Tequila" and "Volveria A Nacer" with the album "Unicas".
In 2004 they released "Desde El Principio" with the first single "Mi Ritmo" and the dancing song "Un Poco De".
Then single "Él" became a hit in Chile and Argentina, becoming one of the most listened songs from the album.
Also they released a cover in spanish "Sobrevivire (I Will Survive)" a cover from the awesome hit of Gloria Gaynor.
In 2006 Azucar Moreno brought "Bailando Con Lola", in memory of the legend Lola Flores, they released the hit single "Clavame" and the song "Bailando Con Lola" and the hit cover "Quitemonos La Ropa". They did a tour around Spain to promote the album.
In Novemer 2007 it was announced that Encarna Salazar from Azucar Moreno had breast cancer, so Azucar Moreno took a break from music.
Later in 2008 Encarna Salazar appeared on TV in September healthy and cured from the breast cancer. But Encarna announced that she wanted to take a break and she said that while she was in Argentina she saw in the press that her sister Toñi was going to begin a solo career and to make a solo album and Encarna didn't know about this, so she said that she didn't know Azucar Moreno broke up at all because of Toñi's new solo career and album plans.
Then Toñi replied saying that she never talked about a solo album, and that her sister didn't knew about the end of Azucar Moreno and the solo album through the press, she said that Encarna told her to "find a life outside of Azucar Moreno" because Toñi wanted to begin an Azúcar Moreno new album, since Encarna was already cured and Toñi said that she hasn't been working for a year in music business because she was waiting for Encarna, and Toñi said that they already had plans about a new Azúcar Moreno album, and she wanted to go with Encarna to a show to promote a new album, with a new image, even Toñi said that she wanted to cut her hair to look like her sister Encarna. But Encarna wanted to take a break and live her life and not make an Azúcar Moreno album so soon so Toñi was told to to "find a life outside of Azúcar Moreno" so Toñi said that's what she started to do and Toñi told Encarna before Encarna's trip to Argentina that that's what she was going to do, so Toñi announced she was going to work on a solo album since she was told to "find a life outside Azucar Moreno" since Encarna is in a different path right know, while Encarna wants to take a break and live a life, Toñi wants to go back to work, has a new boyfriend, wants to be back making music again and go bacl to her famous music career life.
Also Toñi said that she wanted to be in Encarna's first public appearance but she wasn't invited which upset her, she didn't know about Encarna first appearance on TV with all their family at all and Toñi wanted to be there but no one called her.
Also Toñi said that Encarna was upset because she didn't like Toñi to bring her boyfriend to a TV show and a magazine appearance, since Encarna doesn't know Toni's new boyfriend at all and made Encarna suspect about a third person in the decision of Toñi's solo career and Toñi said her boyfriend has nothing to do with this. Also Encarna doesn't like Toñi's friendship with unfamous Spanish celebrity Ana Obregón.
Toñi later said that she has many professional differences with the Azúcar Moreno manager who is also Encarna's husband, and that is one of the reasons that is making Azucar Moreno to break up. Also the Azucar Moreno fans say that the main reason of Azucar Moreno to break up is Encarna's husband and Azucar Moreno's manager, Azucar Moreno fans think that the solution to all of this is that Azucar Moreno needs a new manager, since Azúcar Moreno don't have a lot of promotion around the world because of their bad manager and he is making Encarna and Toñi to break up because he has differences with Toñi and doens't get along with her while working. Also fans want an official Azucar Moreno website, YouTube, MySpace for Azucar Moreno, more music videos, better and bigger concerts around the world and more worldwide promotion for Azucar Moreno.
So Toñi said that she wanted to make an Azúcar Moreno album after Encarna's recuperation but she was to "find a life outside Azucar Moreno" so she began plans of a solo album, and Encarna said that she wants to live her normal life and take a break but that she wouldn't mind to make a solo album in the future, so it's been said that Toñi Salazar will try a solo career and release a solo album while Encarna will be taking a break and living her life, it is still unknown if they are going to talk to fix their relationship, change manager, and if they will sing together again as Azucar Moreno.
