My Interests

Music:

Band Members: That would be me.
Influences: As ever this is a tricky one to answer. Everyone you encounter influences you one way or another, but I guess good fiddle players should be top of my list. They include my old teacher Rosemary who was so supportive and encouraging, local chap Garry Blakeley who has such a smooth and fluid style (great bowing action too), Dave Shepherd from Blowzabella, Chris Wood, Piia Klemola from a European band I played with (totally superb player) and of course the lovely Anna - having 2 fiddles in a band makes you think about your playing in a completely different way. So thanks to all those people. Hurdy-gurdys have to come next on the list. They are the most fantastic instruments in my opinion, so overly complicated, big and bulky, hugely expensive for a nice one, but so sweet in sound, drones that say far more than the note they are making, and they are capable of keeping me in a state of near hypnosis for hours at a time. This could end up being a very long list, so I'll cut it short here: pianos; Mozart; jazz; my dad; bands/music that make me dance; bands/music that make me feel; unexpected (yet clearly correct) chords; a cappella singing.
