About Me
O.K. So, here's the deal...This page was designed to dispel a myth. I don't know how it started, but bands and club owners alike in Jackson, Mississippi started believing the lie that the only way to get noticed is by playing primarily covers; then once you've built your following THEN you can spring an original or two on them. If such a scenario exists, it's the exception and not the rule. For every band that might have used said formula and succeeded, I can name a hundred that stuck to being true, and made it.
I believe that playing covers to get noticed is just an excuse for a band who doesn't have enough confidence in their ability to write. Such bands have to pretend they are somebody else to a crowd who pretends that they are somebody else. And because of that mindset, our beloved music scene has suffered.
Well, all of that is about to change. It's time to break out of this box! The definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. Jackson is too full of talent not to be taken seriously. It's time to take back our scene and here are the rules:
#1. You MUST BE primarily an original band. That
means, at least two-thirds of your set list. An
occasional cover can be cool, IF it's somewhat
obscure and you don't rely on it/them to get
noticed.
#2. IF your cover list includes the following:
Jesse's Girl, 867-5309, My Own Worst Enemy,
Nothin' But A Good Time, I Wanna Be Sedated,
Blister In The Sun...(you get the idea), DON'T
FUCKIN' BOTHER!!! Think about it: Every cover
band that comes through J-Town: They're all
doing the same shit! Heloooooo....
#3. If you're from the surrounding area(s) then PLEASE participate! #4. IF you are from Jackson, BUT you claim some major market city as your base (L.A., New Orleans, Memphis, New York, etc...), then please do us all a favor: Pack your bags, move out there and.....FUCK OFF!!!! BE PROUD OF WHERE YOU'RE FROM YOU BASTARDS!!!
Um...That's it for now...If that describes your conviction then please, JOIN THIS PAGE!!!..
