ABOUT EL ECO
"Guillermo's tunes are fabulous and I loved the performances on this disk. El Eco's CD is simply fantastic." --Paquito D'Rivera
Led by drummer and composer Guillermo Nojechowicz, EL ECO combines the warm and lustrous sounds of samba and candombe with the tighter lines of straight-ahead jazz, darkened by echoes of Piazolla's tango. Called "the seedbed" of much of Latin jazz scene in the Northeast(US)--the dynamic Brazilian/Argentinean jazz ensemble features Grammy Award-winning vocalist Kim Nazarian, Fernando Huergo (bass), Dino Govoni (sax), Guillermo Nojechowiz (drums), and Helio Alves (piano).
EL ECO has played host to world-class jazz artists including Airto Moreira, the master Brazilian percussionist who performed with jazz legend Miles Davis, Claudio Roditi (Dizzy Gillespie), Hendrik Meurkens, Romero Lubambo, Luciana Souza, and Diego Urcola (Paquito D'Rivera), among others.
EL ECO has performed at Telluride, where the line-up featured Herbie Hancock and Terence Blanchard; Philadelphia Museum of Art; Scullers Jazz Club; the Reggatabar in Boston; the Saratoga Jazz Festival; the Curaçao Jazz Festival; the Blue Note in New York City; and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Last summer, the band performed to a sold-out audience and a standing ovation at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.
Guillermo's music was featured on National Public Radio's Jazz Set with host Dee Dee Bridgewater on 101 radio stations all over the US. This past January 2009 the band was feature on WGBH Radio (Boston's NPR) on "Eric in the Evening" with host Erick Jackson and produced by Steve Schwartz.
