One of the most prominent and sought after voices of reggae music in the Virgin Islands belongs to the raspy vocals of Jahman. Born Jabari Carrington on September 18, 1976, Jahman was raised by his grandmother in Contant, St. Thomas. After attending grade school and socializing with peers, it was inevitable that Jahman would migrate from the hills of Contant to the turf of the Garden Street. It was here he found a rhyme and a reason to explore the depths of reggae music. As Jahman matured, he realized that he wanted to be a positive influence despite the many obstacles and negative generalizations he received from many. As such, he turned to Reggae music and began seeking faith in Rastafari. Like many, he was initially nurtured at Christian ceremonies every Sunday with his grandmother, but much later as he came to his own, he gravitated towards the calling. Jahman has listened to reggae music most of his life and influenced by popular greats such as Steel Pulse, Bob Marley and Shabba Ranks. Some of his more recent influences come from Mad Cobra, Sizzla, Buju Banton and Notch (formerly of Born Jamericans). Jahman has been writing and performing reggae music for over a decade. He has represented the Virgin Islands at countless reggae concerts and festivals throughout the Caribbean and the United States. Most recently, he toured the East Coast for six weeks with Richie Spice and opened for Morgan Heritage at the Reichhold Center for the Arts in St. Thomas. You can also hear some of his poignant lyrics displayed across any of his three albums Poverty Struggle, Reggae International and Life As An Artiste. Although Jahman spits mostly conscious lyrics, his alburms are stamped with catchy hooks that uplift the youth, celebrate the female, embrace the ganja man and acknowledge good people. Jahman's eagerly anticipated fourth album is in production and features the current hit single "Hurry Up" which urges us to open our minds to the ways of MaMA Africa. Coupling his robust involvement in Reggae music and maintaining deep faith has kept Jahman grounded, helping him to overcome many challenges and acquire resiliency on and off the mic. Jahman has a voice of a lion, a style of his own and a personality that sets him atop his game. This humble soldier of Jah has many more blissful years of creativity in reggae music ahead of him
