Wood Wire And Words - The Whole Story
Wood Wire And Words are David Rozzell, Clare Rozzell and Pat Francis. Clare is David's wife and Pat's daughter, so the expression "family band" is about right. We formed into a band in 2003, having played together informally for a few months. We all felt that there was a musical idea and a sound that could be developed and decided to formalise things into the band that has become Wood, Wire And Words.
Our early public appearances left us convinced that we were on the right track musically and now, with a healthy number of UK and foreign gigs under our belt, we are looking forward to building on this success and developing our repertoire. We are anxious to seek out new audiences and opportunities to present our music.
The diversity of our individual backgrounds is the main driver behind our sound. Our influences, both collectively and individually, are too numerous to mention. The end product is well received wherever we perform, so, clearly, the bluegrass, blues, country, traditional folk and a mess of contemporary ingredients give a palatable flavour to our musical jambalaya.
While we have no fight with technology our preference is for the warmth and intimacy of acoustic music. When we use P.A. we prefer the "single mic" arrangement as it suits our style.
Our instruments are made of, - would you believe it! - 'wood' and 'wire' - the 'words?' - they speak for themselves!
On the subject of instruments, we 'do our thing' with David on guitar and mandolin, Clare on double bass and Pat on dobro, mandolin and guitar. Vocals are in the capable hands, or is it tonsils, of Clare and David, whose voices, both individually and in harmony are superb.
Our material comes from a vast expanse of traditional and contemporary sources and includes a growing number of self-penned material. All the tracks playing on this site are all our own work.
We could talk about it forever, but the best way to make up your mind about us is to listen to our music, or, better still experience a live performance.
