About Me

Layout by CoolChaserCasey Robinson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1979 and exposed to music at an early age his father who was not only a singer but was also a lover of New Orleans culture and music. By the age of six, he was making regular trips to The French Quarter and was inspired by New Orleans musicians to start playing his grandma’s ukulele.
At age 13 he picked up the guitar and spent most of his teenage years learning heavy rock such as Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Primus. He spent most of his high school years honing his rock chops.
Late in high school he became interested in jazz, funk, and blues and spent a lot of time learning about jazz and various improvisational music. When he reached college he studied classical guitar for a few semesters before realizing that what he wanted to do with music had little to do with a scholarly pursuits; so he started a few bands. The Dukes of Jazzard, Half-Gallon Nut (2000, T-Bones Records) and Cookout, Ear Fashion (2001, T-Bones Records) were a few commercially released albums to which he contributed during that time. He also collaborated with grammy-nominated producer Headfridge (Afroman’s Because I got High) on several electronic music projects including The Sexual Honky, Headfridge Coolin’ Out, as well as Headfridge Rogue Fugu. Also, his own project, The Speaker Breakers released Life Below Sea Level in 2007 (Available exclusively on iTunes).
Cutting to the chase: In the past few years he’s been heavy in the New Orleans music scene, gaining recognition as the funky and innovative guitar player in “Big Sam’s Funky Nation,†a New Orleans-based funk-jazz-rock outfit. Big Sam, the band leader is the former trombonist for legendary The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. The band has three albums that have been commercially released: Birth of Nation (2006), Take Me Back (2007), and Peace, Love & Understanding (2008) and the band contributed one track on Funky Kidz (2008).
He now branches back out on his own with his own group The Casey Robinson Band, featuring his own compositions and fiery guitar work.JAMBASE.com SAYS: "Guitarist Casey Robinson's Scofield-meets-Hazel playing heartily mesh(es) with the almost funk-metal core, his twisted rhythms and jazz drenched solos further solidifying BSFN's foundation."
His tour schedule with Big Sam’s Funky Nation has been rigorous and Casey has played at some of the largest festivals in North America.
