This spring, Manchester’s New Media collective CMYK invites you, the viewer (not to mention you, the photographer), to take part in a rare experiment in democratic art. As part of the Look 07 photography season, Bitmapping will offer anyone who owns a camera-phone the opportunity to contribute to a unique, organically evolving exhibition – a consensual roadmap of perspectives and close-ups on the fabric of urban life.Professional artists, students and everyone else in between, will be invited to sign up to the project by text and, once joined, will receive a single image at an unspecified point during the exhibition period. They will then have two hours to respond to, through an image of their own, with their response being passed to the next participant in line, and so on, in a growing lattice of image-strings, to be hung in real time - as they come in - in the Cornerhouse Projects space. To take part all you need is a camera phone. To join up, just text BITMAP SPACE to 60300. Your phone network will make a single charge of 50p.For more information, and terms and conditions, go to www.bitmapping.comFAQS
Why 50p?
The 50p cost is merely what the phone network charges for use of this special number. Bitmapping is a non profit project and just needs to cover its costs.
When will I receive my image?
When you have joined up to play you will receive an image any time (this might not be the same day!) from 10am to 6pm, you will then have two hours to respond.
What if I don't respond within this time?
You will still be able to play the game if you respond within 3 hours, if you still haven't responded you will receive a text inviting you to re-join the game.
My camera phone wont let me send images(MMS).
Check with your phone network that your phone is enabled for MMS. They will send the right settings for your phone.
