People who'd like to talk about music, discover new bands, etc. I particularly enjoy discussing musical influences. I'm fascinated by the creative process, and I enjoy seeing how musicians build on previous artists' work while still putting their mark on their music. I'm also interested in other kinds of inspiration for musicians--literature, paintings, interactions they observe, political and social critiques and ideals, etc.I'd also like to meet people who like to challenge themselves intellectually. People who aren't afraid of questioning their preconceptions, but who also know who they are, and aren't afraid to stick out in a crowd. I'd like to meet people with varied interests, who think fast, pepper their conversation with references from popular culture as well as from "high" culture, and are equally comfortable in a bar listening to a band, in a museum, or on a hike through fields in England. It's also important to me that to meet people who respect and celebrate difference. I am very liberal politically, as are most of my friends. I'd like to meet others who want to make a positive difference in the world, while still realizing the complexity of the problems we are all facing. (This makes a sense of humor all the more important, actually--another important attribute of my friends!)
I have wide-ranging taste in music, including alternative, rock, blues--electric and acoustic, jazz, folk, and classical. I enjoy finding new music--it's one of my favorite ways to spend time. I also try to attend concerts when I can. I read voraciously, everything from academic books on history and gender studies to contemporary novels, mysteries, science fiction, and creative non-fiction. I also enjoy reading music criticism.
