About Me

Originally a student of the Evergreen State College's Electronic Music Studios, J.hanson learned analog synthesis on a Buchla Modular Synthesizer (Buchla Easel Weasel and Buchla 200 system) while in residence at the college. Long nights were spent processing tambura tape loops through the filters of the modular system and creating interesting drone textures. After graduating from college in 1996, he found the cost of a modular synthesizer prohibitve in price and opted for playing theremin, which he did with serious intent for the next six years. From 1996 to 1998 he contributed electronic texture to two albums by The Davis Redford Triad. These albums were The Mystical Path of the Number Eighty-Six and Ewige Blumenkraft (these albums are available on CD from Holy Mountain ). He also served as one of many recording engineers on the Davis Redford Triad's Blue Cloud album.Almost simultaneously, he began playing theremin and synthesizer with the early formation of the band Hochenkeit based in Portland, Oregon. Concerts he recollects playing include opening for Loren Mazzacane Connors, Ghost, Smegma, Lee Renaldo, and Jackie-O Motherfucker. He played on Hochenkeit's first album I Love You (Road Cone 1999, Roco 022) as well as recorded certain parts of it. He left Hochenkeit after the first album came out, citing a need to pursue a different musical direction than the one Hochenkeit was actively seeking. From 1999 to 2002 he played in Sunship and Seti, two projects that were the main focus of the drummer of the Davis Redford Triad (Jefferey Helwig) . A limited run CD was released of an early Seti show recorded live (Inner Sanktum). From 2002 to 2006 he took a long hiatus from playing in bands and spent time assembling a modular synthesizer. He has just completed an album of material (pending mastering and Release) which was mixed down with the help of Jacob Hall at Audible Alchemy studios. He is presently working on new material.
