Before that, spent 9 years training for the priesthood (R.C.) - gave that up in the times of turmoil over e.g. the 2nd Vatican Council, the Vietnam war. Homemaker & cook. Two splendid daughters, one splendid granddaughter. and see interests, below.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

There are some great writers with marvellous imagination, humanity and intelligence - Ursula Le Guin and Mary Doria Russell are two. Reading them is so good I'm sure meeting them directly would be even better. All manner of new people, with humour, decency, openness, joy in life. (For they're infectious; insofar as I've developed any of these, I've caught it from people who had it.)

My Blog

The Movement and Bob Santamaria (2): the Split

tribute: the La Trobe Philosophy Department

I mentioned at the end of my tribute to my Uncle Pat that I have been extraordinarily lucky in my working life. For over forty years I have had a job I loved doing, teaching philosophy, and been allo...

tribute to Pat Skinner

For most of the past 40 years it's been a matter of remark (and sometimes of accusation, sometimes of envy) that most of my friends have been women. All my Facebook friends are, for instance, but for ...

Review of Neil Gaiman’s "Anansi Boys"

The first thing about this book is that it's fun, good-humoured, a rollicking yarn. Gaiman can tell a story, and stories within and about stories, totally holding our interest while knitting them toge...

Towards an Idea of the Erotic 5 (an appendix)

Just rounding this off, mainly with some quotes from people I take to be saying things that chime in with what I've been saying. After writing the rest I found that a great deal of it had been well pr...
