Born Timeka Harry, it has been said by her mother that "Timeka has been singing since she was in my womb". Brought into a world of many influential musical entities she naturally gravitated to the melodic sounds and powerful messages that crooned through her childhood. With rhythms and lyrics from the likes of Betty White, Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday, Lord Kitchener and lyrics from Luciano, Bushman, Garnet Silk, Bob Marley; and as she grew older the music of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and India Arie unlocked the strong Jazz Soul influence that U now hear in her very own music.
When asked how she came to be the Reggae Soul sensation that we know her to be today she explained "I always had a passion for music, studied music at CXC level, which involved mainly Classical music. However singing Reggae was not new to
me...". She in turn pays accolades to her family as being one of her influences also saying "...after all, being the last of four siblings, I really didn't have a choice! Reggae was predominantly played in my household." Clearly thought she didn't mind as she goes on to say "Back then, I was always amazed at the voices and melodies I heard coming through the radio, and how it made me feel afterwards!".It was at the age of eight that Timeka realized music to her was not only for entertainment but carried a deeper meaning that spoke very clearly to her. "I can distinctly remember learning Luciano's, 'Just Imagine', and 'In This Thing Together' word for word, and singing it over and over," and warmly concluded with a smile "each time I would add more emotions, and try to pattern my voice to sound just like his!" At a tender age she embraced her God annointed gift of song writing of course under the musical teachings of her inspirations. But although she dabled in this field nine year old Timeka had no dreams of her future just yet "Singing in the bathroom and in front of the mirror
was enough for me! However, our plans and God's plan can be two different things. Songwriting came very natural to me, sometimes I would even write a song a day..."And then came what God was seemingly preparing her for all that time, in 2005 she met Studio 53 Entertainment ltd. It was then, with the encouragement and advice of family and friends that her musical career saw it's birth. Starting almost instantaneously with her first recording of one of her compositions entitled "Live It" the enthusiasm grew. The streets embraced this new sensation and immediately requested a face be matched to this powerful, soulful, fresh-sounding voice. And then it really began, underground shows at various clubs and more recordings. She evolved to the point that she is currently at, and if she has anything to say about it the evolution will continue. However she did have this to say"I believe that music is such a powerful force. When I write songs, I always aim to educate, edify and uplift people. " Hence the reason why my songs can always be identified by their "catchy", conscious, empowering lyrical content. I love all types of music, as long as it has a POSITIVE message. To me, it makes no sense singing about anything negative, especially considering the times we are living in. It's like taking steps backward when we should be moving forward. For example: 'Royal' which was her first release, spoke directly to the women/queens, no matter their color, creed or class. It reminded them that they are truly descendents of royalty, and to always keep their heads up high, despite the challenges and stigmatizations that they may be faced with. Also 'Gift of Life' aimed to empower and uplift the listeners with its upbeat chorus. When trouble takes over you, let God take over. We are all richly blessed by God in our own way, just have a little faith!."Spiritual Beliefs:Although I sport dreadlocks very proudly, I have not conformed to the Rastafarian beliefs. I believe that Jesus Christ (My Saviour) is the son of God. I Love being natural and humble. However, I believe music has no barriers. "What is good for one is good for all". "The important thing is just to receive the message in the song and then more importantly apply it to your lifestyle."Timeka "Lady Meeka" Harry wishes to personally thank her mother and her family for the ongoing love and support that they give her regardless of what she does. She would also like to thank all of the supporters and fans of her music and she employs U to continue listening to her music. And last but definitely not least she Gives all thanks and praises to the almight God for creating her the way she is."Music respects nothing. Not race not color, creed, time, distance, ethnicity, language, religion or space. It can come from anywhere and it can go everywhere so make a joyful noise unto the Lord and let it be heard by the world over. Music and sound is from creation for it was God that said Let there be light, Blessed Love!"
