"We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare and in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made."
—M. Acklam

The Animal Services Division provides essential animal services to the City of Fayetteville by enforcing the Arkansas rabies control act, city animal ordinances, and by licensing animals and providing safety and educational programs to the public. The Animal Services Division provides 24-hour rescue & emergency service for animals. Stray animals with license identification are returned to their homes whenever possible, and stray animals without license identification are impounded. Warnings and or citations are issued to the owners of animals who are found to be in violations of state laws or city ordinances.
Our facility and training programs meet national sheltering standards and we provide an efficiently run, sanitary, and humane facility for the handling of animals. Animal Services personnel assist the public and animal owners with reclaiming impounded stray or abandoned animals, adoption services, responsible animal ownership education, and humane euthanasia for unwanted animals. Regular veterinary care is provided for shelter animals and those injured or sick animals picked up by enforcement officers. Funds provided by the City of Fayetteville are supplemented by public donations and contracts for service with Washington County and surrounding municipalities.
The division's primary objectives are to educate citizens to be responsible animal owners; to place adopted animals into responsible, caring homes; to return lost animals to their owners; and to reduce the number of animals that must be humanely euthanized.
Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM and on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. For emergency services outside our normal hours of operation, you may call the Fayetteville Police Department at (479) 587-3555

If you wish to adopt an animal, come to the Shelter and complete an adoption application. There is a processing period to allow us time to consider the application, check references, and obtain your landlord's approval (if applicable). This waiting period also allows you time to thoroughly consider the responsibilities of pet ownership, and it allows you the time to purchase the necessary pet supplies that will be needed to properly care for your new pet.
After you have submitted your adoption application, Animal Services staff will notify you within 48 hours of your application status (approved or denied).
If you are approved for pet adoption, there is a $60.00 adoption fee. Your adoption fee pays for the following services:Required "First Shots" and de-worming for puppies and kittens Rabies vaccination Spay or Neuter First year's city animal license Microchip Implant (an additional fee of $5 is required to register your pet's microchip nationally) An animal care kit A feline leukemia/FIV or canine heartworm test Free Behavior and Training Advice

Animals adopted from the Shelter may not be sold, given away, or abandoned. Unwanted animals should be returned to the shelter.
If you have questions about the adoption process or Fayetteville Animal Services, please call (479) 444-3456 or e-mail us at [email protected]
