Marie Fielding is a freelance fiddler and composer. Her natural abilility and flair for trad music, take her far and near, playing live as well as studio sessions. Marie has a particular interest and extensive experience in performance, playing for dancing, recording, teaching, t.v and radio. She is also an Early Years Expert in Education, Creativity and Colourstrings. As an experienced fiddle tutor, teaches fiddle at The Tolbooth, Stirling. Although initially self taught, Marie studied classical music at school. Discovering Silly Wizard at the age of 12 soon took her in another direction. She visits Shetland and Ireland regularly to explore various styles of playing. She has appeared on over 50 albums.
In 2006, Marie was involved in 6 albums including her solo album Executive Club. She played for the Queen at Balmoral. Marie participated in Distil 2007 and was commissioned to write music as part of Distil Showcase 2007. She was alsoinvolved in Folk From Here SPNM. A Bhangra/ folk project with world-renowned tabla player Kuljit Bhamra and Kathryn Tickell, as well as working on two other commissions. Marie was also involved in a Gaelic t.v series with Maggie MacInnes and filming and recording for VisitScotland with Kevin MacKenzie and Finlay Macdonald Band.
BBC Scotland recently employed Marie as a consultant for an educational/trad music t.v programme. Marie was invited to promote a new project in Perthshire, with The Blackford Fiddlers, teaching traditional composition skills.
Although pipe music and Gaelic song/poetry have a huge influence on Marie, she is concentrating on her new interest in jazz, Indian influences and free improvisation. Scottish Arts Council employs Marie as an advisor. Other interests include abstract painting on canvas, photography and learning to play Anglo concertina. Marie is currently putting together a collection of her compositions in a book which will be available early 2009.
