1998-2001
The Hope 12 were from Austin, Texas. They enjoyed touring a lot. They really enjoyed playing with Pavo, Rumah Sakit, Adolpho's Reversal, Tekulvi, Aloha, Lovesick, June of '44, The Vida Blue/Ten Grand, and Sweep the Leg Johnny. They miss Matt Davis dearly. They recorded four songs in Seattle during their first tour; two of the songs became the Vacate/Kilt Dead as Beef 7", which they released under the label Defenestration Records. Another song from that session, "Snowcapped" appeared on the impossibly out of press CD "A Compilation for Heroes". A year later, The Hope 12 embarked on their second tour, stopping at Engine Studios in Chicago to record their first full length "Nude Descending a Staircase". The record was engineered by Jason Ward, and they were very happy with the outcome. Over the next year, they continued to fight for shows in a town where it had become increasingly more difficult to do so if you weren't playing something people could just bob their heads to. Subsequently, they put together another tour and this time, paid a visit to Electrical Audio in Chicago. With Bob Weston at the helm, they recorded their second and final full-length, "Isostatic". The release was met with critical acclaim, and we all sensed that people might have started to come around to what they were doing. Unfortunately, with a member relocating to Santiago, Chile, the band went on what would become a permanent hiatus. They played their last show on June 30th, 2001 at Beerland in Austin with the extraordinary Ten Grand. I was so fortunate to have been there to witness it; they played a few new songs that were a sign of what could have been, and I don't think that i'd ever been more excited by what they were creating. If anyone would like more info on The Hope 12, please feel free to send us a message. Thanks for stopping by.
